The Man Behind the Brand
With 20 years combined experience in both culinary arts and brewing science, Shakedown Spice founder Jay is no stranger to the wants and needs of today's consumer. Having a family and two demanding jobs made him pretty hungry. Between designing great beers at one job, and creating new desserts at another, Jay attempted to re-create a popcorn seasoning he remembered eating as a child. This attempt became an obsession, right down to getting the color just right.

Throughout this process, Jay never abandoned his philosophy: create the best product imaginable, that he could feel good about serving to his own children. You see, his wife and children were his biggest fans. Every night, snack time consisted of popcorn with daddy's "special seasoning." Once family and friends got a taste, they couldn't get enough of it. Before he knew it, chefs and co-workers were wondering how they could buy some, and they have been shaking him down for it ever since.

Jay was left with two choices: Sell the spice to an established manufacturer, or build a strong brand around it. Not wanting to risk the integrity of this great creation, he chose the latter. We are glad he did! Nine months later, Shakedown Spice was born.
